Blue Dot Jawfish with fluid filled fins

I recently purchased a Blue Dot Jawfish and have noticed the Dorsal and Anal fins are filling up with what appears to be fluid. This "disease" is progressing and the fins are now so full and thick that I can see what appears to be the fleshy part of the fish when looking through the translucent fins. The fish is actingting normal. It is a quarantine tank.... the two other BDJ that I have in my main display tank are healthy and doing well. I have never heard or aeen anything like this. Any help would be appreciated. I'll try to attach photos.

Sounds like a bacterial disease. For example, "pop eye" (in both eyes) is a common symptom of a bacterial infection, and is caused by fluid buildup behind or in the eye itself.

I was thinking that it was probably bacterial but thought it interesting that it seems to be only affecting those two fins. Do you have a suggestion for treatment? I was dosing the tank with Melafix, but haven't seen any improvement so appears to need something stronger.

I'm a big fan of Furan-2, but am also warming up to Kanaplex. I tried the "new" Maracyn 1 & 2 combo recently. The fish did fine in it, but it clouded up the water pretty bad. Made me nervous a bacterial bloom was starting.

t this point, I don't think anything can hurt.....just SO bizarre looking. If I have to change water every day, then I will.....my other 2 are in a 30 gallon together and doing awesome....I keep the tank a little on the cool side, have a good sand bed and adding lots of rubble for them almost daily. Either I got lucky and got a pair, or they just like each other. I'm VERY careful when dealing with the sick BDJ and to not transfer anything to the main tank. Thanks for your suggestion....will give the Maracyn 1&2 a try.

Oh, I think you misunderstood me or I didn't explain properly. I wouldn't use Maracyn 1 & 2 because of the cloudiness thing. I would use either Furan-2 or Kanaplex. Or you can safely combine Furan-2, Kanaplex and MetroPlex to achieve a very broad spectrum of treatment. Props to hedgedrew for enlightening me of this.

okay, thank you. Can you tell me which would be the best for something like "pop eye"?

I would go with Kanaplex for that. It seems a bit milder on the fish than Furan-2, but still gets the job done. Plus it won't turn the water yellow.
