Blue legged hermit

I woke up this morning to find my hermit sitting on a top rock not moving at all, he is hanging part way out of his shell but not moving. Is this normal? I thought he may be dead so I checked my params, ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 5. After checking these I figured I should pull him but as soon as my hand got close to him he jerked halfway back into his shell. After about 2 hours he is sitting there lifeless again. I'll try getting a pic. Is it possible he is about to molt? Ive had him about 3 weeks with no issue

Definitely sounds like it's just molting. They're pretty hardy little things, in my experience.

These are a tad better pics, I did put in some shells in the tank yesterday just in case he wanted a diff shell. Maybe this sparked him to molt

It could be just chillin' out! Especially if it's still reacting/retreating to your movements.

Mine does that before it molts give it a few days and see what happens.
