Blue spotted Jawfish

Wondering if anyone has had any long term experience with blue spotted jawfish? MY LFS has one for $85 that he's had for almost 2 weeks and seems to be eating and doing fine. I want to grab him but I'm not too sure. I've had a pearly jawfish for almost 2 years and lost him when I moved.

I have a good amount of sand and places to house any jawfish, just looking info on this one jawfish specifically.

They are a great fish but you have to take extra care to prevent them from jumping....They seem to be very good at exploiting any weaknesses in canopies or tank covers and will jump if the opportunity presents itself

My tank if fully covered with screen netting tops that sit very tightly on the top. I even have a little bit of net sitting over the overflows in case any fish decides to go adventuring back there

Great fish. Cooler temperatures might be best.

i had one for almost a year...right after i got him he looked sick. i tried everything i could but nothing seemed to help. he lived for almost a year like this. then, i decided to redo my tank. i took my 3 anthias, purple tang, and my BS jaw to the LFS while i redid my tank and it cycled. of course he died while at the LFS. my mistake on taking him there. my purple tang also got sick, but did not die. i did not put the tang back in the tank though. mine ate frozen mysis, pellets, and medicated antibacterial food from dr g's

I'm at a little over 4 1/2 years with mine, and like steve said the cooler temps (74-76) is where I started him in my tank and over three months slowly brought the tank up to 78. He was my first fish in the tank and has eaten like a pig since.

seems like the temp might be an issue right now. With my ac running I'm keeping my temp around 80-81. I might need to start hooking up my chiller again

It seems the success rate is low and if it were me, I'd just get another pearly jawfish. They are still funny little fish, I love mine :)

Exactly. Very personable and interesting fish. Basically a carnivore.

Well, with that temperature, I would recommend against. I personally keep my tanks at 76F. No chiller required (although I have one on each tank) since I have LED.

not a picky eater, but slower than teh other tangs/wrasses/clowns in the tank. I use to put its food in a turkey baster and it would come and cover the end with its mouth and take the food!

I love them....they remind me of muppets:hmm5:
