Blue Star Leopard Wrasse and copepods

I recently bought a blue star leopard wrasse that is eating any preparded foods I offer him. He especially loves mysis. My tank has been running for a year now, and I know there are a lot of pods in the tank as of now. However, my question is, do I need to have a self sustaining population of copepods for this little guy to live a long happy life? Nothing else in the tank is a known copepod eater (although I see my Potter's angel constantly picking at the sand and rocks and can't be sure that she isn't eating some pods). Any help is appreciated!

I think that if you have lots of pods still in that size of a tank, as well as him being able to eat prepared foods, you have a good thing going. Leopard Wrasses are pretty picky eaters most of the time, and most of the time if they die it's because of another factor.

Many leopard wrasses perish because they have damage to their mouth; this occurs during shipping from their attempt to burrow into the side of the shipping container. if yours is eating mysis, I think you are in pretty good shape.

Agreed, if it's chowing down on prepared foods, you're good to go. Mine have been with my a year and a half with success. The craziest thing just happened food wise, learning from my hooded wrasses how to eat nori off a clip.

Ok thanks so much for the info! I really love this little guy. He never runs when I open the hood up like all my other fish did and he could care less if I clean the glass with the mag float. I think if I tried he would eat out of my hand! I really got lucky with him. Again, I really appreciate all the info!
