I had around a 3" to 4" Bluethroat Trigger in a 55 gallon QT with a 2" to 3" Hippo Tang.
I found the trigger dead this morning. I am just wondering what I did wrong (if anything) and learn from the experience. This is my second Bluethroat and the first was twice the size and never ate from day one. Both I purchases from my LFS.
The recent change was last night I did a 25% water change and a second does of prazipro. I used 2.75 teaspoons for the 55.
Here is some further info:
The tang was already in the QT when I received the Trigger. I had the tang for around 1.5 years and moved from another tank.
1/27/12 I received the Trigger
1/29 to 2/2 I treated with Maracyn Plus
2/10 First Treatment of Quinine Sulfate
2/17 Second Treatment of Quinine Sulfate
2/26 First Treatment of Prazipro
3/1 Second Treatment of Prazipro
3/2 found Trigger dead
Another item to note, the trigger typically had its home up near the top of the tank above an MJ1200 I have in it. Last night when I did the water change, I realized as I was filling the tank the trigger was propped on the MJ which was out of the water after taking water out. So the trigger could have been out of water for 5 to 10 minutes.
After I filled the tank, the Trigger seemed fine and was eating so I figured I got lucky.
During the QT process, the trigger ate pretty well. Shy like a bluethroat but got better over the last several weeks. I have been feed NLS and mysis. mainly NLS pellets.
So I am wondering did the out of water cause an issue? Too much Prazipro? Too soon between prazipro doses (was 4 days).
Also, during the process I saw no signs of parasites but was treating just in case.
I have been successful with the above QT process previously. Before this round I did a Niger Trigger and Banana Wrasse that have now been in my display for around 3 months (received from Liveaquaria).
Note water levels in qt are good. no ammonia and no nitrite.
thanks,
Mike
