Blurry looking water

Good morning everyone,

I am a newbie, and of course, I went for the most difficult option, a salt water aquarium with soft corals.

I have completed a very long cycling of my tank(2months)because I wanted it to be perfect for when I would add fishes.

I have I think added all I want... However recently, I've had an invasive guest (my mum) who have messed up my tank

Long story short, coz of my work I'm out of the country 3days a week, she saw my big leather head coral (I had just bought) had flipped over, so she took upon herself to go move it.

Big leather head did not react well and started releasing some while milky substance and filaments all over the water which became completely whitish... Eventually the big leather coral was removed.

Now I am back and the water is still very blurry, fishes are doing okay, but my other soft corals are not expending as before.

Is there anything I can/should do? I have done a 25% water change.

I have also read that this could be a defense mechanism, and that adding some kind of carbon could help however I have also read that it is not necessary... I am officially lost!! Heeellllllp!

Hi there
Run some carbon in a reactor or in a media bag
To shift anything the leather has released, should clear up in a few days. And don't be too harsh on your mum as leathers quite often shed a layer of skin so it will happen again.

soft corals are generally hardy corals. so they'll be fine. just keep up with the water change and run carbon.

And no one except trained and qualified persons touch your tank, and only perform tasks they are trained and qualified to do.

I would run carbon. Get a BRS duel reactor for carbon and GFO
being TS is new to the hobby and likely spent a considerable amount to get this far, i'd suggest a simple $5.00 mesh bag and $10 worth of activated carbon. just make sure to rinse the carbon well in rodi water first.
