To all who may help me:
I've been in and out of the hobby for the past 20 years, and low and behold, I still am finding myself doing not so smart things.
I have a pair of ORA Platinum Clowns, whom have become my most cherished buddies in fishy form. They always greet me with a smile, and dance around for me. Recently I purchased a 5 and 20 gallon tank for just in case they spawn, as I'd love to try my luck at breeding. I'm waiting for my 5gal Sparklets bottle for rotifers, as well I'm prepared for growing the phyto, with so far I'm lucky to not kill that yet. The clowns started clearing a spot on the rocks, and then I had Nitrate spike, and the cleaning and funny behavior stopped. So I ended up somewhat abandoning my thoughts on breeding, especially with such a new, and small tank. So I decided to turn the 5 gallon into a reef tank for my office.
Ok, so here is where the BONEHEAD comes into play. I purchased a firefish(Nemateleotris magnifica) to help cycle my pico. At the same time, I found a nice looking butterfly fish for my platinums to befriend. I scoped the fish out for the past month and all seemed ok. No signs of distress, so I thought, so I purchased the fish. I acclimated it for 30 minutes, and the Platinums though curious, were very welcoming. I let the fish out of the bag, and that's when bonehead comes into play. After 20 minutes of staring at the fish up close, I noticed what seems to be ICH. I also noticed the fish scratch on the LR. So, I filled one of my 5 gal buckets with some water, threw a spare powerhead, and a heater in there, and am now awaiting word on what I should do next. Obviously treat for Ich, if the thing lives throughout the next 24 hours. But what about my Platinums? The firefish in my pico came from the same part of the LFS, the tanks shared the same filter. No signs of ich on the firefish.
tank info is as follows:
28G JBJ NANO(PC lighting) with Aquaeuro USA Nano Skimmer
tank is 2 months young, so far completed first diatom bloom, as well as a Cyano Bloom, going through green algae(so far only bright neon green, no hair algae...knock on wood)
Water quality as of 7pm tonight: Using API test kit
PH 8.2
Amonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Ammonia 0
Salinity 1.026 Refractometer is living impaired as of Friday, had to resort to the hydrometer. Pesky earthquakes.
I also did a 20% water change after testing, routine.
Tank inhabitants are 9 different ricordea florida, 3 ricordea yuma, 1 green nepthia, 3 different species of zoanthids(growing like crazy), 2 species of palys(growing like crazy), 2 Bali Pom Pom Xenia, 1 Fiji Pom pom xenia (these things are growing like crazy), 1 peppermint shrimp, 1 emerald crab, 7 turbo snails(2 are missing shells), 2 nassarius snails, 2 cerith snails, 2 nerite snails, and some weird snail that looks like a small conch, and my pride and joys. 20 pounds of live sand, 2o pounds of LR, and true 20 gallons of Catalina Water from the LFS, give or take a few cups from RO topoff, etc.
5 Gal
DIY PAR30:
4 3W Royal Blue Cree
1 3W Cool White
Jebo HOB wet dry flter (10Gal)
5 pounds LR, 5 pounds live sand
Inhabitants are :
3 Ricordea Yuma, 3 Ricordea Florida with a frag of unknown SPS, 1 Bali Pom Pom, 1 clown goby, 1 firefish(new guy)
water used to start tank was 1/2 from water change of the 28gal, and 1/2 Catalina water.
Quality nearly matched 28G.
Ph between 8.0-8.2
nitrate, nitrite, ammonia 0
Temp in both tanks are a constant 80-81 deg
My questions:
Should I leave the Butt in the bucket and treat for ich?
with the Butt having been in the 28 gal, should I do a major water change?
should I yank all coral and LR out of the 5 gal, and convert it into a hospital tank of sorts, and place the butt in there?
Any input would be most appreciated. Thanks for your time
