bought a rescue coral...

T Diddy

Happy to be here
There was a red chili that had been in the LFS for a month or so. No polyp extension, sitting umder metal halides. I got it for $10. It is currently hidden in shade with low/moderate flow. Already I can see little white bumps where the polyps are considering extension. is there anything other than spot feeding that I can do for it?

I did the same thing with a rescue chile. I have it in high flow. The polyps are actually pretty big, so you can feed it cyclopeeze, artemia, daphnia, things like that.

He's still hanging in there, but I still haven't seen any full polyp extension at night. I'll try for better flow...it's just hard to find in low lit areas at the moment.

I've also rescued a chili coral and have had it for about 6 months now. I am no means an expert, but my chili is now growing. Mine was doing fine with moderate flow, but then I moved it to a dark area of my tank, where it's also cramped. I think the funnel effect from being in a "canyon" really helps this little coral. I think this type of concentrated flow area allows the coral to maximize on eating stuff in the water. It's put about an inch of growth on it in those 6 months. Mine extends it's polyps from about 2 hours after lights out to two lights after the lights come on.
