I am a noob when coming to LPS so i am here for some info.
I bought a Green Closed Brain coral yesterday from my LFS. it look at great at the store and it still does now, the only problem is that i see a few spikes on the side of it. it looks like neddle sticking out. I guess its the skeleton but what is causing this. My water is perfect except for the bacterial bloom caused by my biopellets. I moved it around a little this morning to see what results i get. I'm a little paranoid about it seeing that i recently lost all my soft corals during a little ammonia spike while on vacation. What could the problem be?

It's probably fine. New corals can be temperamental for a day er two ( or week depending on the coral ). Just leave it alone and it should be back to normal soon, granted your water quality is good.

And sorry about your Softies. I went on vacation to Tacoma in January for a week, and came home to see all of my LPS and Softies dying in my reef. Several large water changes later and they are fine. You just never know what's gonna happen....

those spike sound like vermetid snails.these are filter feeding organisms which pose no danger in a reef tank. i have picked up live rock and got jabbed many times, I had a trachy inflate and it got stuck on a spike so I had to lift it off then I snapped off the spike. Anthony Calfo advises that even hundreds of these pose no threat in his book on Reef Invertebrates
