Brains/Favites

I have a colony of Favites in a 75 softy/LPS reef and it appears to be doing very well. The rock it came on/in is flat and slightly dome shaped, just smaller than my hand. I make no effort, at least at this time, to specifically feed it, but it is growing. There were two small areas of exposed rock (of the one it is on) that are now getting covered over with expanded polyps - I suspect it will cover the surface if things continue to go well. Also, it does produce very long sweepers, so I've placed nothing nearby.

As for feeding the Favites, I have a mimic tang (Acanthurus pyroferus) in the tank and feed it (the tang) heavily with Nori, frozen brineshrimp, frozen marine mysids and a home-made gel diet and every time I feed the tang, the Favites extends numerous small tentacles from all/most of the polyps and takes on a decidedly furry appearance. Is it getting the scraps? I'm not sure.

As for tank conditions, I have 4 x 65w of PC lighting (2 x 10K and 2 x actinic), pH varies from 7.9 (AM) to 8.1 (PM), alkalinity is about 3.2 meq and Ca is usually at 400 mg/l. I also have relatively strong, but indirect, flow going over it.

I know that is not a definitive answer to your question, but thought the info might help.

Good luck with the Favites!
