Branching Hammer question

I bought this branching hammer a few weeks ago and in a piece of my branchy rock there is a whole perfect for a plug so I placed it in there. However its horizontal and I'm nervous that with the pressure of water it could be hurting the base as it looks like its deteriorating and getting thinner. Could it get weaker and eventually break?

I read in a post few min ago that if it falls in the sand head first it could kill it so better to glue it in place.
