Branching LPS corals

So I have two different hammers, a frogspawn, three different candy canes, and a duncan. All have between 2-5 heads. My question is as they grow and branch out, does the base or trunk become larger to support the colony?

On some the skeletons below are without flesh as they grew up, so no. They can become a large tree then swallow up the original base and become a large ball of heads, so no need to worry about support. The Duncan however will grow fatter and sprout heads lower as the flesh is alive on the entire stock typically. Hope that makes sense.
