Branching rock structure

I got my first rock structure done today. Took me quite a while to get what I wanted. I used the fiberglass driveway rods, zip ties and silicone. I covered the zip ties in silicone, and also filled the gaps in. Then, I used the rubble and sand that came with my BRS rocks and covered it.

I have one more to do that will be similar in design to this one. Then, I will create a couple of islands to fill some of the open sand.

Here is the first branching rock structure:

Very neat design! Be sure to show when it's all finished. :D

I wish I had the patience to aquascape that way. Fortunately, I got lucky with a lot of natural pieces that supported an open structure.

Thanks. For me, the time is worth it. I guess I am too much of a planner, my build has been going on for months now....but its getting there. I will update once I get the other structure done.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Nice structure.

Thanks all for commenting. I decided when I got home from work just now that I am going to modify it. Well, kinda. The rocks circled here are not attached. They were stuck there to prop it up a bit while the silicone dried last night.

I am going to attach rocks to those "branches" that look like they are integrated with the branch.

A key design consideration of mine has been that the structure has to be self supporting, which it is. However, this change will help that. Plus, I think it will look better.

This is fabulous! I am redoing my rock work since I am adding 50 more pounds...I may have to copy you!

Thanks guys. I made the changes that I wanted. I could not be happier with the structure at this point. Here are some new shots....including a top down view so you can see that the branches go in different directions from one another.

Some of the rods still need to be hidden, but I will take care of that when I open my next tube of silicone.
