Branching Sun coral

I got a small frag of dark green branching sun coral at MACNA. It was a break from one of the tanks we set up and I found it at the bottom of our transportation tub. It is in rough shape. I checked it this morning while my tank was still dark and did not see any poly extension. Should I try to target feed now or give it a few days to heal?

Any pics ? As long that it's not dead I believe you can make it thrive again. Couple questions what are you trying to feed it, is it in dt or qt. OK the method I use is putting a bottle top on it and spray some mysis over it, after a few maybe a week you should see some extension(hopefully). Try keeping it in a low flow low light area.. i would try feeding it when I feed the fish then share the food..

Sorry, lights are way down already. I have it in the display tank under a ledge. I am feeding the same thing as the fish using a turkey baster. When feeding I just light drop it on the coral. A few bits stuck tonight. Will get a pic and try again tomorrow.

I think you're on the right path.. When you say bits stuck was it on the tentacles or the skeleton of the coral? Can you post a couple pics of macna if possible? Would like to see what most of us are missing

The food stuck to the closed polyps. Here is a shot of the tank the parent colony was in and a close up of the parent. I did not tank many pics of MACNA.

Wow what a beautiful tank .. Thanks for sharing and please post when you have full pe. I would try feeding it mysis as that's whats good for it. You might want to flash it tonight a couple hours after lights are out and try to feed as that's when they usually come out till you can train it to come out in the day time

Thanks, it is one of the tanks I worked on during the show. I am using Larry's Reef Frenzy right now. I will give after dark a shot.

Saw some polyp extension after the lights went out last night so tried to feed. I think it ate since some food stuck. Some polyps were still out this morning when I left for work.

Sweet.. Keep spot feeding at least three times a week in the beginning till it gets use to your feeding schedule..
Sun corals require some work but after a while they're real hardy..I almost traded mine after getting lazy for caring for it but instead I decided to nurse it back now it's a nice ball of sun..
Good luck with yours and keep us updated

Sounds good it's only temporary till they can extend on they're own they can handle some flow so nothing to worry about..
Any pics of the frag?

That is good news. I figure I would have to feed every other or every third day once it gets established.

Nope, will try to remember to take one this weekend.

Of course the more often you feed the better but you'll still have a happy sun plus you'll see full pe when hungry..

Here is the little guy. Yes I am having cyano issues right now. It looks to be the tail end of all the equipment problems I had this summer.

Nice frag just keep it up once it's established it can pretty much go anywhere , except too much light.
I know all about cyano fought it for about 6 months and just recently beat it.. Was so temped to get red slime remover but decided to step up my game.. Added better cuc, water changes, cleaning equipment, plus siphoning as much cyano when doing water changes.. now it's all good till I lack off again:rollface:
