I'm brand new at this. Thankfully, I have a friend of mine who is incredibly knowledgeable helping me with my set-up, i.e doing the whole thing while I watch and learn! I'm really excited. I had freshwater tanks years ago, and I always wanted to try a reef tank. With the help of my friend, I am going for it.
I actually bought an entire system we are still setting it up. It's a 90 gallon tank, with a sump system (I probably won't use the correct lingo - still learning). Lots of live rock and some corals and a few anemones.
As for fish, I inherited his yellow tang, coral beauty, foxface, banded shrimp, and assorted snails, crabs, starfish etc. He also gave me a maroon clownfish, but I think my friend will take her off my hands. A little too aggressive for me.
What I'd like to do - once everything is up and running - is get two small Ocellaris Clownfish (my research says they are easier for beginners than true percs) and two small tangs. I've been told that you want to add tangs together, and if I get smaller ones, I've been told the Yellow shouldn't bother them too much. My kids want a blue tang (not sure if regular or yellow belly) and I really like the nasos or maybe a yellow eye.
How does that sound, as far as fish selection?
So there you go. Brand new. It's a somewhat intimidating hobby, I honestly probably wouldn't have tried to start without an expert walking me through it. But I've wanted to do this for years.
