Brass Fittings ?

Antman

Hello all , I was working on my tank yesterday and needed a fitting from my Mag 5 back to my tank
I ran to my local Ace hardware to find an adaptor and they did not have what I needed
I found a brass fitting that would make it work But not sure if this is OK in the sump
The guy at ace said it was fine but what does he know
Any thoughts ?

I wouldnt use it unless it was a fish only no live rock tank. Then again I still wouldnt use it in a fish only tank. The fish only might be a sharks or rays .

No.

I did for awhile. It was fine for the longest (It was used in an auto top off). The slow acclimation to copper allowed some of the more sensitive shrimp to cope.

Until one day I did a water change from water generated by the auto top off. It's was the single biggest "kill off" I've ever experienced with all but one shrimp perishing. The last of which is noticeably twitchy.

There were measurable amounts of copper in the tank by the time I thought to measure it.

Aside from the copper content. the answer is no because the salt will eat the brass. In marine applications bronze is recomended for this reason, which brings us back to the copper issue.

OK that is what I thought so I will take it out tonight !
The mag 5 is in the sump not an external pump
Thanks all
