hello guys, im new to the seahorses keep, im planning of getting a couple of brazilian seahorses, im gonna put them in a reef tank with no fishes at all and im aware of the dangerous corals for seahorses, my questions, any feedback on this kind of seahorses ? are they strong ? can i feed them only live brine shrimps ? any other suggestion will be very appreciate it.

thanks in advance

i have only 1 lil girl left. my male and other female died due to my mistakes and lack of maintance. she is in a 10g with a pipefish and yellow watchman goby. all 3 eat frozen mysis shrimp and she loves small live ghost shrimp. she has also eaten frozen krill as long as i break into bite size pieces. i have had her since march a love to watch her and tankmates. i bought her at lfs along with other female. i am now looking for another male; hope to have badies. they where tank raised and i had no problems getting them to eat. my biggest problem was finding a filter that cleaned water but did not put out too much flow. i went though 3 filter till i got one a liked. she has grown to about 7in long and eats 2 or 3 times a day. usually come to the top of the water at feeding time. good luck with your ponies.

Reidi are a sturdy seahorse given the right conditions. Temperatures must stay below 76F, ideally 72-74F. Reef tank conditions generally are not recommended for seahorses - but since you say you're aware of all that I won't elaborate.

Live brine shrimp is not a food for seahorses long-term. You'll either need to train them to frozen mysis shrimp (Reidi are at times notorious for being stubborn and refusing frozen foods) or you'll have to purchase a constant supply of live mysid shrimp or such which gets very expensive.

Your best bet (and cheapest route) is to purchase captive bred Reidi that are already eating frozen mysis shrimp. There are a number of online vendors selling captive bred Reidi.

Best of luck...
