Breaking up a bonded pair

Sorry if this a dumb question but -If a seller is willing to break up a bonded pair (crosshatch) is it cruel to the fish? I will not ask about breaking up the pair if that is cruel to them or are they just as well living singularly?

I'm not sure that Cross hatches are the same but blue throat are found in large aggregations and seem to like company. I personally wouldn't want to split up an established pair but thats putting human values on to a fish. Triggers on there own don't seem to be particularly shy or retiring but when there is two they do appear more bold and secure.

I did not get them from Michael. Intrigued by the small size but....I DID get the pair from Kevin at PIA. 8 1/2 and 7 1/2 inches- yikes.
I figured paying less than 1/2 and only a couple inches bigger I can deal with.
I cut out the same size fish out of paper and taped to the tank and think all will be good.
I also like that Kevin has had them for a month and has treated them.

My only concern is having a 30x16x21 qt but think they should be ok as the only residents (unlike the brady bunch in huma's tank...lol)

Should have went with the smaller pair...Happyjack saw them a couple days ago and thought they were closer to 4.5 inches each...
good luck with them...
