Breeding clowfish

About 3 months ago i got 2 juvenile black and white clowfish. I came home yesterday to find that one had jumped out of the tank and died . So now my question is should i get another black and white or can i get a different type of clowfish to breed with my black and white clown?

You can get a diff. kind, best to stick with ocy or perc though to make it easier to pair up. Also get a smaller one than the one you have

We should first clarify what species OP has. "Black and white clown" can very well be used to describe anything from Darwin Ocellaris to saddlebacks and even melanistic Clarkis, as well as other rarer oddities. OP - do you have a positive species ID for us?

Thanks. You will have the best chance of success with a significantly larger or smaller Ocellaris. Color is irrelevant for pairing IMO/IME.

I wouldnt go with a bigger one just in case his other clown has aldready turned female. I know he said they were juvi's but i wouldnt chance it. Imo

I agree, get a smaller juvi ocellaris much smaller than the one you have, colors don't matter. You can also get a Percula but I'd stick with the ocellaris.

You didn't say if it was the smaller or larger of the two you had.

I have seen a Maroon and B&W Ocellaris hybrid. They are not pretty.

The one left in my tank is the smaller one and hes misbarred. He also likes to hang out in the top corner of my tank by my intake for my fliter.

They are called Mai Tai clownfish. I've been told they had come from ORA but that may or may not be the case as this particular store (Petco) gets fish from other hatcheries as well. But given that the store clerk I talked to is pretty knowledgable and is in charge of ordering saltwater livestock I am inclined to believe him.

I am not sure this would still be called a Mai tai. That name is used specifically for Orange Oc. X White Stripe Maroon. There are articles where it is believed the Darwin Ocellaris to be a different species then standard Orange Ocellaris and not just a phenotype. I would say Matt Pedersen would probably be the authority on this subject since he writes 99% of the clownfish articles.
