Breeding Tangs

Breeding tangs - Is this at all possible to do in captivity? If so, do you have any pictures of baby yellow tangs and blue hippo tangs? I'm more interested in yellow tangs. I've never seen a yellow tang smaller than 4 inches before.

I know blue hippos are possible. It seems that if blue hippos are possible than anything is possible. Blue hippos are more delicate in my opinion - and with the ick problem.

I am brand new so please take this into consideration when replying and thank you all in advance, this is exciting!

This is amazing:

I heard that the Atlanta aquarium has tangs spawning but haven't heard of any large scale success in aquaculture.

Regarding the blue hippos, someone out there was collecting post-metamorphosis juveniles from the wild and raising them to sellable size, which is certainly not the same as breeding tangs in captivity.

Zooid's right--the larger public aquariums get to see spawning behavior. The problem for hobbyists is that tang mating requires huge joint runs to the surface of the water where male and female release their gametes. If the fish don't have enough room to complete their rise they will probably not release gametes. So, unless you want to dedicate a deep swimming pool to them, you'll probably not be able to get any fertilized eggs.

I'm not sure about this, but I also seem to remember that tangs spend an enormous amount of time in the plankton before they settle out.
