Bristleworm on Bristleworm predation?

sugartooth

Reef bully
Hello,
I have been trapping and gathering bristleworms to collect and give to my LFS because he is getting these cone snails in that specifically eat these thanks to Pagojoe's info.

I collect as many as I can, and he keeps them in a bowl for when the cone snails arrive for food, and also to observe if they do indeed eat these bristleworms.

Well, the latest catch included the regular red/pink worms as well as one that is grey/irridescent looking. If you can believe it, he looked 'mean' for some reason.

My LFS put them in his collecting bowl and told me a week later that the grey one ate all of the ones that were in the bowl!
There must have been about 10 worms I have given him up to that point. He said he checked the bowl, and all of them were gone except the grey one.

Can this be true? I thought they were all detrivores and only very rarely are they 'bad'.

He then went on to say he did not witness any massacre, so it could also be possible that maybe they were poisoned somehow or died on their own because of the grey worm and the grey worm ate them after they were dead.

I'm scared, because there is a very large one about 8 inches (estimate) in my reef tank that I see out, but haven't caught.
Many of my sandbed clams are turning up dead, can this be one cause?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You really need to post a pic of the grayish one. considering that there are thousands of different species it's pretty hard to id one based on a 3 word description! :)
