Brittle starfish-reef safe?

The tank I bought back in March was an already established FOWLR tank w/ 4 fish (which I have since traded in on reef safe fish) and a brittle starfish (about 8-10" in diameter). I want to start putting in some coral of some kind, do I have to remove the starfish?

Most brittlestars are considered "reef safe" but not if it's a green brittlestar. These shouldn't bother your coral, but they oppertunistic and will eat any other inverts (crabs, shrimp, etc) and small fish that they can catch. I kept one in my reef tank for about 3 years and it did ok. It stayed away from my cleaner shrimp because this guy always hung out up high on the liverock, but it did eat my fire and pepermint shrimps which liked to stay at the bottom and hide under the rocks. In my experience they do ok if you keep them fed and happy. But if you forget and they get hungry, they will eat what they can catch.

I went with a serpent star because i have heard they are more reef safe than the brittle, i would watch if you add inverts though.
