Broke down an bought LED. Prestige LED Gamma

After a whole lot of testing of the various LED's on market, I finally got one that I don't think I will be selling anytime soon, as I have prior with three mainstream manufactures. With the summer coming and the changes I made to my tanks( transferred 300g reef into 75G, turned 300 into swim) I have been wanting to get rid of the excess heat from the MH to help reduce my chiller run time. Friday, I thought I would go by reef monsters and get one new T-5/LED's Gamma's. I have always liked and used T-5's to supplement my MH, figured I would give it a shot.

So with that said, I thought I would do a little light thread..All photos with iPhone, no touch up.

If you want you can come over and see them in action before you buy. Let me know. I had to turn it down to 60% on blue and 40% on the whites. The color channel I have set low. I might do some apogee meter testing this weekend. I have tested radions, AI and the razor. It will be interesting to see how it shapes up, what from I have seen so far against a 250 and 400 w mh I think the numbers will be high.

Phxreefer, How has your coral growth been over the six months?

The visable light diffidence from my mh is huge. Did you need to acclimate for a while.

I switched from apollo reef solar blast so not much acclimation was needed from me. The one thing is the color is soooo much better from the T5 suplimented light. Growth has been good considering that my tank has only been up since june. So still young and maturing. I'm in mesa also and would be happy to show you what i have going on.

I guess i should change my reply a bit as my memmory had failed me. I started with the lights at 50% at the peak for the day. I added 5% per week until i got where i am now(70,80,70). I stopped there and have not gone higher. I learned my lesson early with led's and went slow in the beginning. Sorry i had forgotten that i did that.

I have LEDs as well, but I came to the realization that I like the hues and coloration of T5s. My current system contains only LEDs; however, it doesn't have enough blues. I guess the system you have is the best of both world.

Out of curiosity, what Kelvin temperature are those ATI T5s?

I like being able to have my T5s. I have always supplemented my MH..

Currently I have two actinics(421nm) and two blue plus (460mn) and I like the mix. My corals seem to be going really well, I have left one side a 250mh and the other the gamma. Figured I would leave it that way for a month or so to see if i can get little comparison.

Thanks, SKAREEF, for letting me check out your new light fixtures. They are simply AMAZING! The colors popped. For someone who's color blind, I could see the pink polyps on that monti came to life right in front of my eyes!

Also, I appreciate your generosity for sharing the ritteri anemone with me. Here are some photos taken. Just to let you know, the clowns dove into the anemone in less than 15 seconds! It was like seeing our children dashing to open the presents on Christmas mornings!!!

I hope I will not let you down with this anemone. I read they need pristine water. I can give them the lights and the currents, but my water has been hovering around 10 for nitrates and 0.15 for phosphates. Carlos @ Aquarius has been kind enough to test my water for me, as I can't tell colors that well. I am contemplating dosing it with NO3PO4; however, my dkh is 11, which is 3 higher than the recommended 8 for usage of the stuff.

Im Jealous of the H. Magnifica. Make sure you keep your pumps covered and continue to work on your water quality. I have heard they will start to "walk" when nitrates get as high as 5 ppm. Good Luck!

ps. How many clowns do you have in your tank and what size is your tank?

Keen eyes. I have six clowns living in a 150G flat back hexagon. I am contemplating turning it into an anemone tank; I would like it to be a paradise for clowns.

Be careful with all of those clowns. It is recommended to only have a single pair of clownfish, no matter what size your tank is. Once they mature all bets are off and you may end up with only two anyways. Make sure you have an exit strategy if things start to go bad. Good luck with everything, keep us posted on the anemone and clowns.

Thanks. Advice well taken. I hope to get them to paired up for the time being. The first pair will go in my nano. The second pair will stay in the main tank. The last two will be rehomed. To ensure genetic diversity (and avoid incest), I have bought them from separate sources and different times. I will keep everyone updated.

No hijack here, its all good stuff. Thank you, It was great meeting you as well, another long time reefer. Great pics, it appears to have acclimated well, the clowns will make it feel right at home, my paired clowns miss it already, they are having a hard time with its clone because of the flow( right next to return). I am glad to see it go to a good home, 1 H.Mag is plenty. You should be fine. I have had this anemone for a long time and it went thru a couple water parameter changes I am sure.

+1 on trying to keep it down though.

And yes, (love this pic) they will move around until they are happy happy happy. Funny enough, at the time, it had not moved from the bottom of tank for months, same place. I guess it just wanted a new seat( I don't think the toadstool appreciated it). This was about a week before it split.

I went with the 2 24". Love them. A bit to much light, and I could have stayed with the 36" and had plenty, but was planning for a longer tank in future. As for the disco effect. I keep the color channel fairly low so not much disco going on, but it does give off a great shimmer.

The great part was( and I was a little worried at first), the first month I didn't see much growth, especially moving from metal halides, but after that, boom, my corals took off and now I get exceptional growth, more so than the metal halides, corals also look healthier. The only downside is now I really have to pay attention to coral placement.

If your not in a hurry to purchase I spoke with the owner the other day and he said they will be in Orange County CA for Reef-A-Palooza in Oct. would be a great place to see them in action.

Any updates here i loking tu get 36' inch light and was wonder vhot is the best combo off the T5 and hove is the light programable con you du sunrise and sunset on led or clouds thanks for respond any pics off the progres of the tank .
