Broken O-Ring

Does a broken O-ring on a ASM GX-1 affect it's performance? Mine has been running for about a month now and it only pulled out stuff the first day ever since it doesn't pull much out. thanks in advance

Depends where the o ring is located. Usually, if one is there it is necessary. You can find lots of small o rings at lowes or you can get a kit with different sizes at Harbor freight.

If your adjustment tube stays in adjustment it should not matter. The main purpose of the o-ring would be to keep the tube in position.

o-rings also work as bushings. The skimmer may leak from there and will probably affect the foam production rising into the riser tube.

I will go to homedepot and get a new O-ring because i do not get anything in the collection cup and my tank is full of algae at the moment.

I havnet been running a skimmer since day one yet, algae simply means u need a clean up crew, and need to run some carbon, keep up with water changes etc....

You will lose a few bubbles out of million bubbles from this. I don't think it's effect the performance that much. That's just my opinion.

Yeh true....But if you have a SeaClone, Jebo180 or CSS 65-220, they are worthless without the O-ring, they leak IME, and you wont get any skimmate plus since they were leaking the foam never passed the neck of the skimmer.

EDIT:ASM Skimmers have O-rings? Hmmmm....

Speaking of carbon, i think they're useless unless water is pushes through them, but i have nothing to push the water through the carbon so im afraid i wont get enough circulation going through the carbon...

Get a phosban reactor and throw some in there.

Or get a canister filter and u can do the same.
