I have an anemone fish broodstock aquarium, I qt a pair of true percs and placed them in my tank when they were passed fit.
No probs for two weeks and I bought a torch coral for them to host, Within 2 hours the fish were hosting and then the next day I noticed cotton type growths (literally gooey clumps)on the fins and a small amount body of both fish this got worse with the smaller fish becoming listless and displaying a high number of gill movements per min. I did not qt this coral [a mistake i know], but very little (drops) of the bag water entered the display.
I suspected brook (possibly brought on by the stress of acclimation to this new host) so removed both fish and performed a formailn dip for 45 mins. I placed the fish back in the main display as I have no space for a qt at the moment, The smaller fish looked like a gonner but them began to perk up and slough alot of mucus from the fins but not the body. The sloughing did not occur on the larger fish and it looked alot better straight away however its fins were opaque.
Does this sound like brook or a related condition?
Shall I continue to dip for a few days (assuming the fish does not die)?
Will the brook remain in the main tank and reinfect the fish?
Thanks for any help.
