Dear Reefers,
Recently had a royal gramma who started rubbing his gills on the sand and rocks, then stopped eating, then very quickly developed a white raised lesion on its head and then died within hours. I am guessing this was a case of Brooklynella and Uronema marinum, with Uronema as the more likely candidate since I didn't see any sloughing off of skin.
There have been no new additions to the tank, but I did just transfer all fish, corals and sand and rocks from a 16 gallon nuvo to the 29 gallon, so stress may have been a factor.
The only other fish I keep in the tank is a damsel pictured below. The fish is behaving normally but has the below markings on his gills and face. No other signs of distress, poor eating, lethargy or rubbing, etc.
2 questions:
1) Is the Damsel infected and should I treat him?
2) If the damsel is removed/treated and or perishes, how long do I need to leave the tank fallow to allow the parasites to die off or clear?
