I have a newly setup tank thats been running for just about a month now. It has started growing algae but the algae is brown. Is this bad? Its a 46 bowfront with a 24" coralife 50/50 bulb.
Most likely diatoms. Totally normal for new tanks to get a diatom bloom followed by a green hair algae bloom so be prepared. Not to worry though as it should go away on its own. When your cycle completes you can add a cleanup crew of some snails and such and they should also make quick work of it.
Also, the use of RO/DI water is highly recommended as your water source. It will be the first defense from algae blooms.
