Could some one please tell me how long i have before the brown hair algae is gone?

I am about 6-7 wk's into the cycle
I have a 90gal. w/20gal. Refugium.
I have siphoned it out but it keeps coming back..... Will it die off on its own or is there something I should be doing?

I was told to let the tank run it's cycle and this is the final stage.

could someone please let me know.

Thank you
Joel

To girlfriend,

It will not look like this for long. Really, it won't :)

You can buy an Algae Blenny... I bought one today for $15.00, and within 10 minutes of being in my tank it started chomping away at the hair algae...

Just hang in there buddy :) Not long ago I went through multiple algae outbreaks. It is normal, and it will pass.

It helps big time if you remove the rock and blast it with a water hose. The fresh water does not hurt anything. JD

I think we all know what your going through. I would remove as much as I could by hand and let my astrea and turbo snails get the rest. This was mainly on my rock though. Patience brother, patience. - No Worries

Topmav1 - No, I'm not using Ro/Di........ big mistake?

No worries - I now have (2) huge turbos and 13 Astreas

Thank you all
for your help on this

jtp, yes, BIG MISTAKE. The most important thing about your tank is the water quality. Are you using regular tap water? Some use the tap water filter that you can buy but it really depends on the PPM in your water. But a TDS meter, they are a cheap investment. They measure the "junk" that you have in your water. Long term use of tap water will lead to cyano, diatoms, and other problems that you do not want. RO/DI's are about $160...you can get one from Filter Direct online.

Good Luck.

Truth is, in NY where I live, the water is not that bad and my tap water was reading at about 44 ppm. I bought an Ro/DI and it went down to between 0-2. However, my friend bought the tap water purifier for aroung $60 and the tds meter read at about on that water as well. So it really depends on how bad your tap water is...then you can decide to go RO/DI or Purifier..in my opinion.
