I have a 29gal that is nearing the completion of its cycle. In the past 3 days I have had this brown/rust colored algae pop up on a powerhead and sporadically throughout the live rock.
Is this normal for the end of a cycle, or should I find a way to remedy it quick?
It's kind of hard to put a definitive number on that, but assuming you are using RO/DI water maybe 6 months before it stops showing up on a regular basis? There's always going to be some algae in your tank, but what your seeing in the beginning is usually referred to as the "uglies." I'm pretty sure we've all experienced this in one form or another so don't panic. Just try and keep your parameters within reason, manually remove what you can and be patient. GL.
Yeah, I agree with cloak, nothing to worry about. It might get a little ugly but it will be alright. Keep up with your routine water changes, but don't do toooo much either.
