Brown Slime after the Water Change

So, I have decided to stop using tap water due to my unending green hair algae issue. I am in the process of purchasing a RO/DI unit. But in the meantime, I went to a grocery store last night, got some DI water and did a 20% water change last night. Now today, I am seeing brown slime looking algae (?) forming on the sand and my rocks. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on? Thanks!

Maybe it wasn't truely DI water you purchased.. Probably had enough trace phosphates for the algae to show up.

Pictures would really help in this case. Did the water come from a machine or was it in prefilled jugs?

Regards,

Pat

The water came from a machine. I got it from Wholefoods for 39 cents a gallon. As I said before, I have a severe green hair algae issue, but never seen brown slime (almost like red slime algae except it's brown) on the sand after the water change with tap water. I may do another 20% water change with the DI water tomorrow. Will see. But even if the water wasn't as pure as it should be, I know it has to be tons better than the tap water. So, I am confused ...
