Brown spots on clowns...help!

Hey,

Tried searching the theads but the search thing is not working.

I have started noticing what I would call brown spots on my clowns. About 15 spots on each fish on the main part of the orange of the fish, none on the white part. They are small dots like you would see with ich I guess. They are eating and acting normally so far.

They are tank raised false percs and have been happy in the tank for about two months. I did just add a little zooanthid colony almost a week ago. It came from the LFS so not sure if something came in on that?

Anyway I didn't know if this was a common malady and what the most current treatment is.

Thanks,

James

More than likely it is your clowns rubbing against the zoos. Perfectly normal. The spots will go away sooner than later.

Interesting. I never see them down there checking anything out by the zoo's. They mostly seem to stay up top looking for grub...pigs. But they are unattended most of the day so there is no telling what kind of trouble they are getting into. There is also a frogspawn down in that part of the tank.

I will keep an eye on them then and hopefully it will just go away.

Thanks for the reply.

James

Its the frogspawn.

Look up something called Melanism. Clownfish experience this.. its a darkening of pigment in the skin.

They will be fine, if it is Melanism, harmless.
