brown tips

hey guys,

Yesterday I went out and got a small frag of green birds nest. This is the first piece of SPS in my tank as I wanted to start with something "easy".

Anyway, got it home and noticed some of the tips are brown.... Is this normal from the transport? Could it have been there at the store? and Should I trim the brown off?

thanks!

What are your parameters? Can you post a picture of the coral? The brown your seeing might just be algae growing on the tips. You can clip it off if you want, but it will most likely grow back if you find out what's causing the algae to grow in the first place. GL.

parameters:
temp:77, SG: 1.024, Ph: 8, Alk: 8, Ammonia: 0, Nitrite: 0, Nitrate: 10, Phos: .25, Ca: 420.. all others I haven't tested for yet.

The frag has been in my tank for under 16hours now, and I noticed it about 2 hours after it was placed in... Thinking it's how I received the frag and not the tank?

*sorry for external link, can't figure out how to post to board.

How old is your tank? Under the right conditions it doesn't take long for algae to grow. If you've got the tools just go ahead and clip it and see what happens. Maybe it's something else. GL.
