All,

I know this is a macroalgae area, but I have posted in several other threads with no luck :-(.

I have this algae which is starting to spread in my tank, and can't identify nor get rid of it.

Please take a look and offer any help you can:

really don't think its a macro, looks to be some sort of micro, perhaps some sort of diatom...kind of hard to tell from the pics, but you call it "turf algae"...does it actually grow as a sort of hair algae, or is it more flat? Does it brush off easily, or is it stiff and attached to the rocks?

Opps! I meant to write "I know this is not a macroalgae" (since I was posting in a macroalgae forum.)

I will try to take more pictures if I can. This algae is really difficult to scrape off, and dark brown in color. I don't beleive it is a diatom algae. Also, if I look at it from an angle, it almost looks slippery.

It doesn't really spread quickly but spreads slowly but surly over the last few months. It is also mostly high in my tank where this more current and more light.

Hope this helps, for I really need to figure this stuff out. Thanks.
