Brownish-Purple Stringy Algae?

Hello all,

I recently discovered this algae one one of my rocks. The first time I noticed it, I brushed it off. Does anyone have any idea what type of algae it is? How harmful is it? The last addition to my tank was 2 weeks ago to the day, which was a Euphelia Torch coral (dipped with CoralRx). It looks like there may be some air bubbles trapped under it?

When I brushed it off two days ago, some small specks floated to the sand floor. Where the pieces landed, there are small stringy circles about the size of a half-dollar in the sand.

Any suggestions for limiting/halting its growth if it is bad (besides reducing feedings)?

P.S. The tank is about 2 1/2 months old. Is this a delayed part of the cycling process?

I heard that turning lights off for three days will help. If I have two softies and two LPS corals, along with an anemone, will there be a large effect on the them?

Pulsing xenia frag
Zoa frag
Euphelia torch frag
Rainbow acan frag
Condylactis anemone
Feather duster worm

Also, has anyone had much success with completely eliminating the light in the tank for three days?

Hi! Thought I would chime in. If it is Red Cyano my go to product is Boyd's Chemiclean. Add in the amount (follow the directions closely)......Turn skimmer off....And wait no less than 48 hours....Turn the skimmer back on...No more red slime....Not kidding....This stuff works great! I was impressed....And I am hard to be impressed! LOL!
