my BTA was looking deflated for 2 or 3 days. yesterday he halway came out of it and today he looks deflated again. i have seen him this way before but only for a day or two after eating then it was fine. all the corals, sponge, shrimp, crabs etc are fine and my water tests are all normal/in good range. is it dieing?

I have an orange BTA I was concerned with, he was doing the same. He deflated real small about 1/6 the size lost his color and was shriveled looking. I thought he died to check I feed him and he ate. It was about a week before he looked normal.

I think it was a light issue for mine; when he looked more healthy he moved to the back then to a rock near the top; he is still there now a couple of weeks later.

The only thing I know to suggest with my limited experience is to feed him some shrimp, that’s it the only thing I did for mine and he did respond over about a week. I feed him every 3 days when he was sick.

Hope he recovers!

I feel better, just fed it 1/3 shrimp , it took it, and the link from cmador sure made me feel better cause that looks just like mine. didnt know they would do it that often. i think i will feed less but more often in the future too.
thanks tons to all who replied cuase i was bummin

My GBTAs will do this occassionally. I don't think it's best to feed them when they are deflated, since, in all likelyhood, they are expelling waste. You really don't need to feed them very often. Mine get a small bit of silverside once every two to three weeks. However, they do need good light, which I presume you have.

Best of luck.

how is the bta doing? After your post i when home and one of mine was deflated! But it was dividing off into another one.A few of them have been doing that lately.
