BTA Eaten?

Has anyone heard of a BTA being destroyed by the clown it was hosting. I introduced them to my new tank and after 2 days the clown took to it. The next day the BTA was gone and only a small piece of the foot remained attached and small pieces of green left in the tank. Any ideas on what happened?

I've heard stories of BTA's being "roughed up" too much by their hosting clown fish. They usually can't take the abuse anymore and just die off. However I don't know what caused it to disappear and only having the foot remain.. that does seem a bit odd.

BTW Brandon bravo with the signature. But those prices are too cheap to be true. :(

If this was a Maroon Clown and a smaller anemone, it's a definite possibility. Maroons have a tendency to mouth, and even tear, anemones, particularly the tentacles. Curious that they're also the most aggressive of Clowns. Makes one think if the aggressiveness is necessitated by their "roughness" with their hosts.

I don't think your clowns will eat your anemone, but that doesn't mean that your clean up crew won't! If your BTA was sick and about to die then I have no reservations in saying that a shrimp or hermit may have made a dinner out of it.

Peppermints are known to pick on anemones when other food sources are gone. I know this personally!

Like others have mentioned above, your BTA may have become unattached from the rock and floated into a powerhead.

good luck

it could have died. ive seen BTAs die and dissolve leaving only small pieces of material behind.
I think you may be right. I had just moved tanks and the transfer may have been to much for it to handle.
