BTA shredded through my powerhead (what now?)

So I woke up this morning to an unfortunate mishap between a BTA and one of my powerheads. Unfortunately, the remains of the BTA ended up under some rock that I couldn't get to (I was on my way out the door for work). It appears the only way I'll be able to get to this is by removing a bunch of rock tonight. My question is, can I just leave the remains for my CUC and do a good sized water change? or do I need to get at the remains and remove it ASAP? The soonest I can do anything is not until later tonight.

Thanks!

Best to remove dead things unless you want to gamble on an ammonia rise and losing stuff in your tank... Unless I saw the CUC eating it right away I would take it out

I would remove it all as soon as possible, I would also do a water change.

This will help with anything that is in the column that is going to start to turn to ammonia. Blow the rock off if you can and get any bits and parts out of the tank.

ALSO:

Put a cover that power head. It is worth keeping anything out of one, by a little preemptive protection.

Are you sure it's dead? BTAs can com back from some pretty bad shreddings. If you can fit a siphon hose down to where it is you can probably suck it out without removing the rocks.
