Though I'd share this with the community.
I have a 125 gallon fowlr with about 200# of live rock, a 55 gallon sump, and an octopus skimmer. I maitain a moderate bioload. The system has been running for ~ 2 years and is in pretty good shape with nitrates averaging about 40ppm.
Bubble algae began growing on the rock. It wasn't out of control, but it was getting there, so I started to read RC and other sources to at least slow the growth down.
I added some high capacity GFO from BRS into a via aqua reactor, I can't remember what my phosphate level measured, but it was certainly higher than 0. About two weeks later I added 3 emerald mithrax crabs from live aquaria.
About a month after adding the GFO, the bubble algae is COMPLETELY gone. I didn't change anything else about the system (other than adding a couple of non-algae eating wrasses). I never manually removed a single bubble.
I never saw the crabs eat the bubble algae, so I'm not sure how much they helped, but it doesn't really matter to me which one solved the problem. Incidentally, I haven't re-measured the phosphate level.
