What is the best most reef safe way to deal with bubble algea. I have a little and I dont want it to get out of control. I have heard emerald crab can, but can also nip at corals.
I actually had a lot of success with 2 emerald crabs in a 50gal reef, they removed every instance of bubble algae and never nipped any corals. Probably just like peppermint shrimp eating aiptasia, hit or miss, but I had a lot of luck with them.
I had a small outbreak, and added an emerald crab. Did a bang up job, is quite entertaining, and is not eating regular algae. Has never touch a coral (that I've noticed).
I used a tube and started siphoning water. Stuck the tube directly above bubble algae and picked it off with a tooth pick. That way if it pops the tube will suck up everything. If its small enough they pop right off. It's a 2 man job though. Someone has to hold the other end of the tube.
my emerald crab did a wonderful job, so wonderful that my tank has no more bubble algae, then she got hungry, went after the fauna pellets each time I feed my LPS, also ate one of my baby jawbreaker mushroom right in front of me.... she is dead now, RIP.
