I have the same skimmer, it's been running about a month now. They are fairly fussy to setup, water level has to be steady, and little things like a water change or even changing the filter sock will knock the bubbles down. But it gets going again and skims really well. Many experienced reefers have declared it the best skimmer for the money out there. Smallest footprint, nicely made, easy to assemble and maintain.
Unfortunately there are no instructions with it on servicing the pump. Mine was blowing a lot of micro bubbles and I thought something was wrong with it. (Does this on fresh salt mix after a WC). Disassembled, nothing wrong, put back together and it was making a LOT of noise. Took it apart again and found the rubber grommets for the impellor shaft were not seated correctly.
Perhaps this will help...
The impellor shaft is ceramic and fairly fragile. If handled delicately it won't get broken. Place the pump side grommet on the end of the shaft, insert into pump, then place the magnetic impellor body into the pump, then the ceramic washer and grommet, then the cover.
Tom at SoCal Tropical can probly mail you a replacement shaft post haste. Trying to reach BM directly may be an effort in futility - have you read their instruction sheet and website copy???? :hammer: I wrote them after I got mine and offered to help them write their instructions as I have quite a bit of experience with technical writing. Offered to do it on the cheap just to help them out since they have such a great product line. No reply.
Let us know if you need help getting it sorted.
