Bubble montipora

I just set up a new 40 gallon breeder tank with a 250w hqi pendant. I noticed some little bubbles just under the surface of my encrusting montiporas tissue. When I touch them or wave water at it some of them come out. It was under a 65watt pc before this. The pendant is about 16 inches or so above the tank and the monty is midway up the tank. Is this because of the lighing? Any info would be appreciated. Here are a couple pics

Gas developing under coral tissue is NOT a good thing.. I forget what it means, but however... what your referring to as a montipora, Im not sure that it is... its hard to tell, but in that second picture it looks like a much of brown zoathids bunched up...???

That's Psammacora, not montipora. IME it is normal for this species to get those bubbles for the actual tissue is very thin.

isnt that oxygen build up? you might need to increase flow to that area of the tank to sped the gas exchange plus lower the light it is recieveing. i agree it is not a monti but my psammacora does not have a texture like that. the surface its self is smooth but the growth is irregular.

I always thought it was an encrusting monti. It was a hitchhiker on a piece of live rock. Its brown and purple and is one of my favorite corals in my tank. It is very hardy and quick growing too. I guess ill have to get it id'd sometime when i get a better pic. Thanks for the help

it sounds like it can't keep up with the photosynthesis process in the new lighting. i would move it down some.

i've read that sometimes the zoox in the coral can work overtime and produce an excess in oxygen. the coral can't comsume it fast enough - so it has to go somewhere.

i've only really seen it happen in softies and some lps though.
