Bubble Tip Brittle Star-- Are They Reef Safe

Are these Bubble Tip Brittle Stars reef safe? I bought one 2 weeks ago after my lfs told me that they are not as aggressive as the green ones are, I have been feeding it any way to make sure.

It depends on what species it actually belongs to. I did a quick search for "bubble tip brittle star". After checking just 8 urls I found 6 different species in 4 genera listed as bubble tips. Two were in the same genus as the green serpent star. A couple of the urls did say these needed supplemental feeding or they would start to go after other organisms including fish. Other bubble tips were described as detritus feeders & harmless.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep feeding it. Also the one I have is shape like the green brittle star.

I've had one for 3 years or so, but never knew they were known for eating fish! Mine looks just like this guy.

I've had a few fish go missing..wonder if he's to blame? The thing is HUGE

Did you read the text on that page?
"Has a reputation for eating fish, the Brittle Star can attack fish if underfed and unable to scavenge for food. Feed raw shrimp, scallop, clam, mussel and other meaty bits frequently. Will learn to take food right from your fingers. This Sea Star is an excellent detrivore and will do a good job at keeping any excess food and detritus from building up. Will also consume any dead fish that is lost in the rockwork."

It may not have killed the fish but it certainly would have enjoyed the funeral services!

I have been feeding mine once a day with a piece of frozen krill. Wondering if I could go like every other day? Or more or less?
