what are these bubbles that build up under a clams mantle, they also look like slime strings comming off of the clam with bubbles also ? i tested all my water and everything is good, temp is 78 and i run carbon.

Hi,

does it happen after water changes??
My maximas are doing this after water changes, no problem...

Bye Erik

Sounds similar to coral expelling their zooxanthellae. I would guess your clams are doing the same. I assume you do nat have a bubble generating device (ie-airstone) or similar close to the clam, that it may be "inhaling" the bubbles. Be sure all conditions are maintained during water changes, if this seems to be the catalyst.

In my opinion, your clam is simply "putting down" new shell.
Give it a couple weeks and you will notice the new calcification (bright white horizontal line).
I don't know the process you are seeing, but it seems to be a gas by product of calcification.
Good Luck!

My crocea does this too from time to time, I haven't seen that in any of my other clams. derasa, gigas and max. Not sure what it is but it doesn't seem to hurt anything. The only difference is that my crocea is way at the top of the tank.
