i am setting up a 125 gallon tank, i need someone to literally, go through what equipment i need for the tank including everything from sump, to heater. i want to make sure i have everything planed. What do i use for circulation what is the benefit of having a close circulation. I love corals also, the best corals, including the best lights. i want dosers, and controller. I want to set up the most efficient tank please help me!

Research what type of livestock you want them research their requirements. Research then research some more. Find out the pros and cons for each type of equipment or method you want to use.

No one here can design your dream system, that is up to you and what you want to accomplish. If you have questions about certain equipment or methods then feel free to ask.

My last tank was a 55. My 125 now seems like a 55 and I'm only 2 1/2 months in!

I built my "dream" tank this time around. Check my sig for details if your interested. I tell you this much, dream systems of this size are not cheap. I'm already in over $10, 000 in equipment alone.

So you want everyone to do the hard work for you? ;)

Take a look at the members tanks posted in this section. You will get some great ideas and see the types of systems others have. It will give you some great inspiration and ideas for equipment. There are some incredible tanks here that are refreshed to the top often.

Most of it is personal preference.

A 125 is a short lived dream, long ago it was my dream but it didn't take long to discover it wasn't a good dream. It is too narrow, front to back, which limits aquascaping options. Just like the 55 it is hard to get a decent looking rock layout. a 180 is much better, the 24" depth opens up a lot more possibilities. Don't get me wrong, I liked the old 125 but it didn't take long to discover the limitations of it. The more depth, (not height) the better.

I agree with this statement. The depth in my 125 seems to have more of a 2 dimension aquascape like my 55 did. That is my biggest issue with my 125.

+1.

There are more than a dozen ways to skin a cat. Or build a tank. Someone else's dream tank can be another's nightmare. Take your time, do your research, build your own list, then start a build thread. Lots of help here at RC, but the tank you build will have to be what's right for you.

Here's my build thread. This is just to give you some ideas, and start you on your research: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1853170

Here's another build thread, from outside RC:

Um yeah.. that's a lot like saying "I want to eat the best food there is! Don't send me to any of those bad places or anything I won't like, just the best!"

Good luck!

Sounds like your looking for the perfect setup for the perfect tank.

Hate to rain on the idea, but it wont work.
You will have problems, you will pull your hair out. Its the nature of the beast.

Here is my build. It is only 4 pages long. I designed everything so I could take the lazyman's way. I wanted to minimize cost, maintenance, equipment (like no chiller or heater) and still have a serious reef. I only do 1 water change a year at 90%. Like everything in life, there are pros and cons to each choice you make.

There are downfalls and I've made mistakes that I'd most definately re-evaluate if I could go back in time.

Peace and good luck,
Michael

I'm currently making my equipment list for my upgrade and will make sure to check everyone else's builds... that's definitely the best way to learn what does and does not work.

Good luck!
