So....after 10 years of keeping a Reef Tank...my story.
Never had any issues with ICH.....carefull, take your time, keep things constant.......
well.....bought some extra rock with shrooms on it...a steal...9~10lb rock for $25.......not a bad deal......

3 days later...ICH........

is this related? dont know. should I have asked additional questions from the guy who was parting his tank out?.....

so....now to catch the damsel, tang, clown and scat.....

in my opinion: YES! I learned the hard way too. Came down with ICH when I introduced new LR into my tank recently. real bummer!

I have no idea if this is really true, and if so, if QT'ing rock would help. Very strange/.

Silly Question??? If you QT the new rock, how do you know when it is actually safe to put into the display?

I don't think that is a silly question at all. I am interested in knowing the answer to this as well.

If it's wet, it should go into QT, since it can bring in anything that it has been in contact with.

If would really suck if you bought that steal-of-a-deal rock to end up with mantis shrimp and have it eat 3 or 4 of your fish before your figured it out..... or worse, something like marine velvet and have it kill everything before you know what is going on.

QT anything and everything, my clean up crew even goes in QT.....

A question...talking about mantis shrimp... Will it hurt your live rock to do a 'freshwater' dip to cause the bad things to come out of the rock before putting it in qt?

don't know about the fw dip but alot of people do it. I would say adding anything into a tank could stress fish and give ich the chance to take a foot hold. All tanks have ich in them but the fish are protected from them by the slime coating on them. If i'm wrong here sorry.

Qt the fish or rock for 8wks if you wanna defeat ich.

had to tear the whole tank down to get to the bloody damsel...
