Buying Live Rock Online

I was not impressed with the live rock at my LFS and have pretty much decided to buy from the web. Infact my LFS owner recommended www.liveaquaria.com because she has used it before and liked their guarantees. Has anyone bought live rock from there? Or any website? I have a 29 gallon tank and was originally going to get 20Ibs of live rock and 20Ibs of base rock. If I go with liveaquaria I would probably get 44Ibs of fiji premium live rock. Thanks :bum:

I asked pretty much the same thing. Some folks said they were not impressed with live aquaria, but they do guarantee their stuff. The other place to look which is where I will likely buy (if I buy online) is Premium Aquatics. You can check them out here.

Sure I'd love to see a pic of the rock you received from floridaliverock.com I am looking at it now but I would like to see more pictures. :)

I sure can't wait to get my rock and finally get going. I got lucky with my taxes this year, so I'm just waiting for the check. I'm tired of my tank looking like this:

I can show you some from my order that I received form PA on Thursday this past week. I ordered 150 lbs with two day shipping. Overnight shipping is recommended. I am VERY happy with my purchase and will go through PA again. I ordered the cured rock by the way.

I have had my tank cycling since the day I got them and my cycle process is going EXTREMELY well and fast. I have tested my water myself with Salifert kits and had my LFS test it as well. Both sides were in agreement that the Nitrite level is high meaning that the cycle is in the 2nd phase of its nitrogen gas cycle. From what I understand it goes form Ammonia to Nitrite to Nitrate. PH is great as well. I was very surprised at how little putting all this rock in at one time as actually done stability wise.

I've bought LR from premium aquatics twice. Once in oct. '05 and again in may '06 during upgrade to 90g. I got the cured fiji and it looked good, had all kinds of 'pods, feather dusters and a few sponges! Highly reccommend www.premiumaquatics.com for their live rock. I've heard tonga or marshall rock is the way to go 'cause fiji isn't the quality it used to be, but again this is just what I've heard. Maybe someone else would have some info on this?

I'm so glad I have a LFS with decent rock. I've never ordered it online. I'd be super paranoid about not being able to hand-pick the pieces.

Jeff what did you pay a pound?

Being that I ordered so much the price dropped for me to $3.99 a lb. I think the total was around $780 including shipping.

I would have went with the uncured rock, but I had some trips coming up that took me out of town and my townhome setup makes it hard to cure my own stuff anyway. My wife wont let me use the tub. lol

I was inthe same situation few weeks earlier. went through a lot of research. Finally found this : hope everyone agrees :)

If you buy cured LR especially Fiji, then PA has the best price.

If you get uncured rock ( all precured and boxed cured from the initial facility - means uncured) you may find other places cheaper. like Ebay waltsmith LR etc 2.19 a lb .??! + reasonable shipping
or couple of other sites who sell for 2.49/lb bulk.

I guess all the rock is coming from fiji and different distributors charge differently. Only issue is to find somebody you are comfortable so we know they care for the LR as possible in transit. I havent seen any one having trouble so far in any forums

Wow. Thanks for all the responses and nice pics! I am going to check PA out but from what I have seen it looks like am going to be killed for the shipping and handeling fees not the live rock itself lol. Keep it coming!

Foible check your PM i sent you. I know where you can get it for $2.50 per pound plus shipping. Great Premium Walt Smith International Live Cured Fiji Rock

Anyone bought from saltwaterfish.com? They charge about $170 for a 45-50lb box of fiji liverock and you get free shipping there.

Their forums speak very highly of the LR and the research I've done says you end up with about 45lbs (since they include the weight of the packaging in the 45-50lbs described in the ad).

I was considering purchasing about 150lbs from them since it's the most cost effective liverock I've come across yet.
