One year ago today I added the first fish to my new reef tank. It was a big step up from my 4 month old 12g nano.
his addiction takes over swiftly, and it helps to have partner that is interested enough to appreciate the time, effort and money required to keep a reef going.
Looking back, I sure made a lot of rookie mistakes, despite reading these forums voraciously.
I am glad I took others' advice and got both an RO/DI and refractometer from day one.
I wish I had listened sooner about quarantine and 'don't skimp on the equipment, you'll only buy it twice', especially lighting.
I stressed and worried about every little item, and in retrospect that was not all bad.
In the past year, I have learned a lot and suffered a bit, but the losses turned into knowledge, and have made my reef a better place for both me and my charges.
I am grateful to my wife for her understanding and support, to these forums for the wonderful community and knowledge and to my many LFS who have helped make my tank what is is today.
I am eagerly looking forward to see what the next year brings.
A few pics. Enjoy the progression.
