Intro:

This is my first large reef tank. I have been doing this for 4 years. I started out with a 14g biocube w/LED CADlights 34g w/LEDs, 1.25g cube & i now have a custom 50g rimless ran by 6 PAR38 LEDs. I am coming over from nano-reef.com due to not many people running big tanks.

The Tank:

I picked up a 240g 8x2x2 acrylic tank off craigs list for $250. I had to drive 2 hours to pick it up. It has 3/4" acrylic on the sides and back with the bottom, front and euro bracing 1/2". The tank has normal scratches but nothing deep. I am in the process of sanding and polishing the whole thing.

Hardware:

240g acrylic tank 8x2x2
1,350 GPH pump
Vortech power head
12 PAR38 LEDs 20k w/40 degree optics hung by SS wire & track lighting
Sump
Custom stand

Livestock I already have:

2 grade A picasso clowns
3 RBTA
1 green carpet
1 mystery wrasse
1 blenny
1 pistol shrimp
1 skunk shrimp
SPS

Do you think i have enough verticle support? Each post are (2) 2x4s made into a 4x4. Six total Also the front and back have a 2x6x8' running the lenth of the tank. I have plenty of support under the top. I am
Just wondering am i safe with 2,000min-3,000 max pounds? I belive so.

Your 50g is beautiful. I like the dimensions on your new tank. I am sure it will be a great looking project when completed. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see how it comes out. I really did that anemone nest on the right. Very cool.

Thanks every one. The 50g is glass. I plan on selling the 50g tank, stand, pump, CPR overflow, heater & maybe sump. Only after I get the 240g running.

Update: Just about finished sanding and polishing the tank. I ended up using 400 grit followed by 600, 800, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000 & 3,000. Looks great now. Before I went from 400 grit to 1,000 and think that it wasnt buffing out all the lines from the 400 making it foggy at the end.

I ended up using 2400, 3400, 3600, 4000, 6000, 8000, 12000 micro mesh on my dremel. I wish I would of bought this stuff a long time ago lol

I got these today in the mail. There not "nano" size but it doesnt matter in my 8' 240g. There are VERY quite & push ALOT of water. There are 3 settings:
small : 530gph, adjustable duration 10-20s
medium: 2116gph, adjustable duration 5-15s
large : 3968gph, adjustable duration 2-10s

How the controller works is you set the duration for each size. Then it goes through each setting (small, medium, large) and repeats. You can not set just one setting which I though you could do. It creates alot of flow. Im happy for what I payed for (2) $192 shipped from Hong Kong. After I get my 240g set up and transferred I might make 2 wave box and ditch the controller for a single on/off one for a wave motion. I dont know until I get to that point.
