so my tank is starting to get quite a bit of calcium build up on the sides and back of the tank.if i decide to scrape it of the sides, will it re dissolve into the water or will it just spread? thx

it will not dissolve back into the water column (at least to any great extent). It will just fall to the floor of the tank.

What color is this "calcium"? you really should not be getting any deposits like this in the first place. I think you may be referring to Coraline algae actually

i was under the impression that the pinkish-purple stuff that grew on the walls of the tank was calcium carbonate.please correct me if im wrong.

thanks Randall_James,nice little article.ill go ahead and assume its coralline algae, was just a little paranoid as it seems to have gained its encrusting speed lately, maybe like other things of the sea, takes a bit to get going, but once it does it grows fairly fast.now if my frags will do that :P

ill get a couple pice up as soon as my batteries charge up some.
\the tank has 2 150 watt halides 2 130 watt acinics

here is a full tank shot

here is a picture of the coralline on the overflow

im still pretty humble about putting pictures of my tank up.its not a whole lot to look at yet as my frags are still that, frags.my tank is matured somewhat but everything in it is pretty young(within the first 2 and a half months),but i have seen a lot of change just in the last 2 months(since my last disaster)
thanks for reading/looking

Nothing wrong with what I see :) The stuff is in fact coraline and it will spread pretty rapidly. I try to keep mine scrapped off the glass as much as possible. Will not hurt a thing however to let it go. You will also see most of the green coraline go away as the purple takes over.

ya i think im going to scrape it off the side panes.ill just leave it be on the back since i dont have any background on the tank.
