Calcium reactor for FOWLR???

Anyone running a calcium reactor for their FOWLR tanks? Making the switch from 240 reef to approximately 500 fowlr. Could use my Deltec reactor, it's rated for 500 gallons. Is this unnessesary?

I ran one on my FOWLR for a while to keep the corraline growing like crazy on my rock. It is not necessary. I just did it because I had it already and it would be sitting otherwise.

Might have just a few corals (Hammer and some ricordea)and my one squamosa clam. As i said I already have the reactor and if I don't use it I will be selling it. Would like to keep the coralline on my rocks, I like that look.

You won't need to run it very hard if you do decide to use it. Media and CO2 would probably last several years.

You will need to keep the phosphate and nitrate down if you want the coralline to flourish - this is a good goal, however, since the fish will do better as well.

I wouldn't sell the reactor if you think that you might EVER have a reef again since you usually get half of what it is worth... so I would use it.

with balanced media it can help you on mantaining pH level and alk levels at correct levels ... not only calcium.....(like ARM for example)

The PH of a fowlr does not change much. So the only use I can think of for a calcium reactor is for raising PH if you're running a sulfur denitrator since the PH of the effluent is quite acidic. For me I just pass the effluent thru a canister (ie phosphate reactor) filled with ARM which effectively buffers it.
